An ancient city is now a modern and buzzing town, though the Dutch fortress remains as it was during the Dutch period. Galle was the most important sea port at the crossroads of Far East & Middle East since the days of the Romans. The Dutch Fortress is one of the best preserved in the Island. The oldest Protestant church in the country called the ‘’ Groote Kirk ’’ built by the Dutch among many other buildings, villas, bungalows, mosques are inside the fort, fortified by massive ramparts.
The River Madu and Wetlands is one of the great combination of nature’s wonders: Birdlife, mangroves, islands in the river, traditional fishing & prawn trapping. A boat ride in the river would expose you to the whole new experience with the nature.
The sanctuary was created to protect the endangered species. The eggs are collected and immediately buried in a sandy compound that offers protection from birds, crabs and humans, thanks to some netting. Out of 8 varieties of turtle in the world, five can be found here: parrot, green, loggerhead, crocodile and leatherback. All turtles lay 105 eggs six times a year and the incubation period lasts 48 days. The turtles are kept for a 3-day period to let their navel close and prevent them from being eaten by fish and crabs. In this turtle hatchery you will be able to admire the regular lodgers such as rare albino turtles, two blind turtles and a turtle with no fins. These will never be released to the sea as they would not be able to survive. Sick turtles are also treated here before being set free.

Excellent hotel, friendly staff would def go there again
The view from our balcony in room # 409, was terrific. It was centrally located to everything on and around the port area. Wonderful service and everything was very clean. The breakfast was below average, although not bad. If back in Zante Town we would stay there again.
It is close to everything but if you go in the lower season the pool won't be ready even though the temperature was quiet high already.
