Sigiriya - Sigiriya rock fortress ‘The Lion Rock Citadel’ is a world heritage site. Sigiriya was the Royal Citadel of King Kasyapa who ruled in the 5th Century A.D. He built moats, terrace gardens, beautiful ancient frescos of heavenly maidens in a pocket of the rock, water gardens, Miniature water gardens, boulder gardens, and a fountain garden atop this rock. Stone staircases were erected leading up to the rock and you can the mirror wall around the western side of the rock. On the top of the rock are the ruins of the palace & two intact man-made pools of water.

Thereafter drive to Polonnaruwa sightseeing in Polonnaruwa The ancient city of Polonnaruwa was the capital of the Buddhist Agrarian civilization after the decline of Anuradhapura (11th – 13th Century)
Its period of greatness lasted from tenth century AD to 12th. The Polonnaruwa era was famous for huge man made reservoirs, most famous of which is the Prakrama Samudra or the Sea of Parakrama, which is larger than the Colombo harbor.
The glory s of this ancient city is relatively well preserved and give evidence of the miracles of Sri Lanka’s past. See the Royal Palace complex, the Quadrangle with its concentration of ancient heritage and the spectacular Gal vihare complex of four massive images of the Buddha, cut from a single slab of granite – one of the tallest of ancient Sri Lankan rock carvings.
After early breakfast drive to Knukles Mountains the trek would be traversing five major vegetation types from dry zone forest to montane pygmy forest at Riverston, including dry patina grassland in the island and offers an outstanding viewpoint in Knuckles area. We break the trip with lunch in Knuckles area. Next, we keep moving to Kandy
Kandy the second capital of the hill country, repository if culture, religious center, is Sri Lanka's most beautiful town. Visit Upper Lake drive, take a stroll in the bazaar and markets; visit Anglican Cathedral and Hindu Temples. And finally, visit the sacred Tooth relic Temple which is the custodian of the Buddha’s Tooth relic. The Tooth relic is encased in seven caskets; the outermost of which has the shape of a Stupa adorned with a large number of or gold ornaments.
The most important annual event in the Kandy city is the Kandy Esala Perahera (the festival of the tooth). That is the grandest of all processions held in the country, accompanied by elephants adorned with colorful costumes. Taking place in July or August in Kandy, it has become a unique symbol of Sri Lanka.
After breakfast leave for Nuwara Eliya the famous hill station in Sri Lanka more than 6000 above from Sea level en route visit Peradeniya botanical Garden was originally founded in 1371 as the queen’s pleasure garden, later becoming the residence of a Kandyan king. The 60 hector park was later converted into a botanical garden with extensive well-kept lawns, pavilions, and an orchid house with an outstanding collection, numerous flower beds with cannas, croton and colorful bougainvilleas. Giant water lily and papyrus reeds complement unusually exotic specimen trees. After that proceed to Nuwara Eliya.
Nuwara Eliya, located 6128 Feet above from Sea level is a splendid landscape. The city is particularly well kept and neat. The eternal green grass gives to the locality an aspect of ‘’ colonial British Style.” The city was built entirely during the 19th Century and its architecture mimics that of an English Country town, with red brick walls, country houses like hill club and mock – Tudor half timbering. There are plenty of restaurants in the locality and plenty of guest houses as well. Take a city tour in the colonial city : Drive through the town of NuwaraEliya, have a look at the well maintained buildings of colonial Architecture, the busy market place, Lake Gregory, golf course, race course, vegetable cultivation and ever encompassing tea plantations.
After breakfast, we begin driving to the Horton Plains (Maha Thenna) we experience you with another interesting trek, across the Horton Plains it is most certainly one of the world's best nature reserves. The vast expand suddenly comes to an end with a massive precipice, the world renowned “World's End". There is famous "Bakers Falls". Horton plains is the largest wet grassland in the country and expands in an area of the size of 10,000 hectares, it is habitat for Elk, Deer, Giant Squirrel, Wild Boar, Wild Hair, Porcupines, and a variety of Migratory birds, some of which are endemic in the region.
The morning is the ideal time for the trekking in the plains. You would follow the beaten track taken by many a hiker. The final destination is the World’s End, aptly called so because, at the sheer depth of 3700 feet, the precipice is a natural wonder; some misty days you would not see the bottom of the hills. On others, it offers a panoramic view.
Down below, one is greeted, by the beautiful view of the sprawling tea estate laced with gravel roads and lie rooms, and if one looks beyond, by breath-taking view of the southern part of the island down to the coast.
After breakfast, we leave by vehicle from Belihuloya to Maskeliya at At the base of the Samanala Kanda, begins the tedious 8km/6hr climb to Sri Pada (Adam's Peak). There are couple of hotels at the base of the mountain and you can relax and refresh. Generally, pilgrims climb the Adams peak in the evening, in order to reach the top by the early morning and climb down before the sun get hot.
In your climb, you will be discovering the misty mountaintop,reach the 2,240 meter high peak of the island's fourth highest. You will be witnessing the spectacle of the sunrise, as the mountain's shadow, cast by the rising sun falls on the clouds below.
After breakfast, proceed for Singharaja Rain Forest expands 21 km from east to west, and a maximum of 7 km from north to south. Given the high density of endemic birds, Sinharaja is fondly referred to as a bird watcher's paradise. You may relax at hotel.
After breakfast leave for trekking at Sihnaraja forest. Sinharaja is Sri Lanka's largest virgin rainforest. More than 60% of the trees are endemic, and it is a habitat for endemic wildlife and over 50% of species of mammals and butterflies, as well as many kinds of insects, reptiles and rare amphibians endemic to Sri Lanka. The best way to trek Sinharaja Rain forest is with an experienced guide. Take a trek through the quaint paths of Sinharaja where placid undergrowth lie in wait for the appreciation of all who wish to indulge in the tranquil wilderness of Sri Lanka's world renowned rainforest.
After breakfast at hotel leave for Yala via Suriyawewa reach to Yala. You can stay at a luxury tent camp in Yala. Staying one night at the tent camp in the middle of the Yala national park gives you the complete experience of wild life. Meals will be served at the tent camp. Relax in the tent and in the evening enjoy a Jeep Safari at the Yala National park.
Yala is situated 309Kms south of Colombo and approximately 1259 Km2 in extent. It is located in South Eastern corner of the Island and is the largest and most popular national park. It is one of the best places in the world to see leopards in their natural habitat. You can see wild life such as elephants, monkeys such as Red Faced Macaques, muggers, swamp crocodiles, bears, wild bears, Chital deer, Sambar deer, buffalos, Golden Jackal and many other animals and birds
After breakfast leave for Hikkaduwa en route Jeep Safari to Bunduala bird sanctuary. Bundala bird sanctuary is perhaps the best place to observe endemic & migrant birds in Sri Lanka. It is one of the foremost destinations for birdwatchers and is a protected coastal wetland famous for its abundant aquatic and other birds. The sanctuary is also home to significant populations of elephants, Marsh & estuarine crocodiles, turtles & other fauna, including the leopard. In a four hour jeep ride, you can see elephants, crocodiles, giant squirrels & flamingos.

After breakfast at hotel leave for Colombo en route boat ride in Maduganga , the River Madu and Wetlands is one of the great combination of nature’s wonders: Birdlife, mangroves, islands in the river, traditional fishing & prawn trapping. A boat ride in the river would expose you to the whole new experience with the nature.
Thereafter visit Kosgoda turtle sanctuary. The sanctuary was created to protect the endangered species. The eggs are collected and immediately buried in a sandy compound that offers protection from birds, crabs and humans, thanks to some netting. Out of 8 varieties of turtle in the world, five can be found here: parrot, green, loggerhead, crocodile and leatherback. All turtles lay 105 eggs six times a year and the incubation period lasts 48 days. The turtles are kept for a 3-day period to let their navel close and prevent them from being eaten by fish and crabs. In this turtle hatchery you will be able to admire the regular lodgers such as rare albino turtles, two blind turtles and a turtle with no fins. These will never be released to the sea as they would not be able to survive. Sick turtles are also treated here before being set free.
Early afternoon reach to Colombo and lunch at Colombo restaurant. Colombo is the commercial capital and there are plenty of places to shop. There are high end places such as Majestic City shopping complex, Galle face Green, House of Fashion and the ODEL Unlimited Dress Boutique or you can go on a shopping spree in bustling Pettah market.

The view from our balcony in room # 409, was terrific. It was centrally located to everything on and around the port area. Wonderful service and everything was very clean. The breakfast was below average, although not bad. If back in Zante Town we would stay there again.
It is close to everything but if you go in the lower season the pool won't be ready even though the temperature was quiet high already.
