DAY 03 | TRINCOMALEE / SIGIRIYA

After breakfast leave for sightseeing in Sigiriya, Sigiriya rock fortress ‘The Lion Rock Citadel’ is a world heritage site. Sigiriya was the Royal Citadel of King Kasyapa who ruled in the 5th Century A.D. He built moats, terrace gardens, beautiful ancient frescos of heavenly maidens in a pocket of the rock, water gardens, Miniature water gardens, boulder gardens, and a fountain garden atop this rock. Stone staircases were erected leading up to the rock and you can the see mirror wall around the western side of the rock. On the top of the rock are the ruins of the palace & two intact man-made pools of water then proceed to Rattota and visit Rama temple

DAY 04 | SIGIRIYA/ KANDY

Breakfast at the hotel, Leave for Kandy and visit Art and Crafts Centre and Gem Bureau. Visit Upper Lake drive, take a stroll in the bazaar and markets; visit Anglican Cathedral and Hindu Temples. And finally, visit the sacred Tooth relic Temple which is the custodian of the Buddha’s Tooth relic. The Tooth relic is encased in seven caskets; the outermost of which has the shape of a Stupa adorned with a large number of or gold ornaments.

DAY 05 | KANDY / NUWARA ELIYA

En route visit Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple, Ramboda. The legend has it that Rama’s forces gathered in Ramboda to wage war against Ravana. Ram Padai means Rama’s Force. Rama sent his erstwhile monkey soldier, Hanuman to look for Sitadevi. Hanuman combed the hills of Ramboda searching for Sita.

Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple

The Chinmaya mission of Sri Lanka has built an Anjaneyar temple with Hanuman as the presiding deity. This temple is called Sri Baktha Hanuman temple and the image of Hanuman here is 16 Feet tall. The service times at the Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple is between 7:00 am to 12:00 noon and again 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Mani Kattuther

Mani Kattuther the Rock in Labukalle Estate

Then proceed to Mani Kattuther- A rock in the Labukalle estate.After Hanuman found Sitadevi, on his way to convey the happy news to Rama, rested on this hill top. The hill where Hanuman is believed to have rested after meeting Sita is known as Mani kattuther. Today a temple with statues of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman stand atop the rock.

DAY 06 | NUWARA ELIYA SIGHTSEEING

Sita Amman Kovil in SeethaEliya

After breakfast leave for Sita Eliya. Visit Sita Amman Kovil in SeethaEliya- The stream that runs from the hill, catered to the needs of Sitadevi during her stay at AshokaVatika. Now there is a temple for Rama, Sitadevi, Luxshmana, and Hanuman by the side of this stream. It is interesting to note that foot prints akin to Hanuman's are found by this river and some are of small size and some are of large size.

Sita Amman Kovil in SeethaEliya

Hakgala Botanical Garden is believed to have been used as a pleasure garden by King Ravana. However the garden was officially set up in 1860 as an experimental Cinchona plantation from which the anti-malarial drug quinine is extracted. Subsequently the garden was used for experiments in acclimatizing temperate-zone plants to life in tropics. Today Hakgala is a gardens of roses, shrubs, ferns &montane woodland, all delightfully located in salubrious environment, with small streams running across & wooden bridges built over them with birds flying all over.

The Gayathri pitam also known as SriLankatheeswarar Temple was set on foot by Gayathri Siddhar Swami Murusegu Maharishi. This temple is situated in where Swamiji identify as Sri-Nagar which means the ‘Metropolis of contour’.

DAY 07 | NUWARA ELIYA / ELLA

Divurumpola

Divurumpola Temple Dagaba

After breakfast at hotel, Leave to Ella via Divurumpola- means a ‘place of oath’. That is where Sita, after she was rescued from the captivity of King Ravana underwent a test to prove here chastity by offering herself to fire. The spot was initially fenced and walled to protect it from surrounding wilderness. Then a sampling of the Anuradhapura bodhi tree (one of the 30 original saplings) was planted as a mark of respect to the place. A small dagoba was built subsequently under the Bodhi tree. The temple depicts paintings of the Ramayana epic. Today the temple is revered for the oath taken by Sitadevi.

You may also visit Sita Tear Pond and Chariot en route stop of Pussellawa Hills. The summit of the hill overlooking Tea Estate in Pussallawa is where Hanuman first set foot on Lanka. These hills stand tall in-between King Ravana's capital city and AshokaVatika. The barren land in between is believed to be the route in which Ravana took Sita from his capital city Lankapura to AshokaVatika, which, according to the legend was a paradise on the earth. Till to date no vegetation grows on this passage except grass.

These caves are massive symbol for architectural talent of King Ravana. The path way of these tunnels were created as a secret passage and also through the hills. These curve combined all the important cities, airport and dairy farms. Existing places of these caves are situated in Ravana cave at Bandarawela, Ishtripura at Welimada, Sitakotuwa Hasalaka, Senapitiya at Halagala, Labookellie, , Ramboda, Matale and Wariyapola.

Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara

Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara

Kelaniya is the site closest to Colombo connected to the Ramayana. After King Ravana’s death, Vibeeshana was coroneted as King of Lanka by Lakshmana at Kelaniya. There are murals enshrined outside the Buddhist temple depicting the crowning of Vibeeshana. The Kelani River is mentioned in the Valmiki Ramayana and Vibeeshana palace was said to be on the banks of this river. The reason Lakshmana crowned Vibeeshana, was because Rama had to return to India as he had to continue his self-exile of 14 years to honor the commitment to his father, King Dasarath of Ajodhya.

The view from our balcony in room # 409, was terrific. It was centrally located to everything on and around the port area. Wonderful service and everything was very clean. The breakfast was below average, although not bad. If back in Zante Town we would stay there again.

It is close to everything but if you go in the lower season the pool won't be ready even though the temperature was quiet high already.
